VAUXHALL Astra Estate 2004 - 2011

Generation Information

Body style: None

Segment: None

Vauxhall Astra H, Mk5, was one of the best selling cars in its segment in the U.K. and it was offered with a choice of bodyworks with two, three, or five doors, coupe, convertible, hatchback, and coupe.

The Astra station-wagon was the typical British car for a family that needed a hassle-free car, with enough features for all, enough room for trips over the weekend, and shape to fit them all. It wasn’t that passionate as the Astra GTC or just a tool as the Astra hatchback. But it had everything a driver needed and a family desired. It was priced lower or similar to its competitors.

The station-wagon featured the same front fascia up to the B-pillars with the 5-door hatchback version. A V-shaped grille with the classic Vauxhall badge in the middle of a chromed bar and a plastic bumper extended to cover the front radiators covered the front area. The overall design was a mix between a cubist style and a rounded style. The tailgate was wide and tall, providing easy access to the loading area.

Inside, the straight and simple dashboard featured an option for an on-board computer, located in the middle of the front area. The controls for the information and entertainment center was located on the center stack, via a rotary knob and a few buttons. The rear split-backseat in 60/40 proportions allowed an extended trunk volume of up to 1550 liters (54.7 cu-ft), which was among the best in its segment.

The Astra was offered with a wide choice of gasoline and diesel engines. The most attractive was the 1.9-liter diesel, which offered enough grunt and great fuel-efficiency. With a standard, 5- or 6-speed, gearbox, and an option for a 6-speed auto, the Vauxhall Astra H hatchback scored some of the highest sales from its segment in the U.K.
