The Astra Sports Tourer was one of the most iconic vehicles in the Opel range.
It was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Whether it was known as the Caravan or, more recently, the Sports Tourer, it was the classic station wagon for half of Europe and the UK.

The hardest job for Vauxhall was to build a car with almost the same length as the outgoing generation, but bigger inside. After certain modifications, the Astra Sports Tourer gained a lot of trunk space, reaching a total of 1630 liters (57.3 cu-ft) with the rear seats folded down. With all the seats in the upright position, the trunk space was a decent 540 liters (19 cu-ft).

A very important modification was for the rear occupants, where they gained 28 mm (1.1 in) in legroom and 26 mm (1 in) in headroom. One of the biggest achievements for the bodywork was to cut down the weight. By working on new components, new materials and also new engines, Opel succeeded to reduce the model’s weight compared to the generation it replaces with 150 kg (330 lbs).

The base engine was a turbocharged gasoline 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 105 hp. It was available with an Easytronic transmission for best fuel consumption results and featured a combined 4.2 liter/100 km (56 mpg). The most powerful unit offered was a gasoline 1.6-liter direct-injected, which developed 200 hp.

For the diesel units, Vauxhall offered a brand new 1.6-liter bi-turbo engine, which had the same characteristics as an older 2.0 turbodiesel powerplant, offering 160 hp and 350 Nm, but it was cleaner from the emissions point of view.
