The fifth generation of the 5-Series Touring went through a facelift along with its sedan siblings in 2007.
Despite the world economic crisis, it managed to survive until 2010, when it was replaced.
The facelift was scheduled before the first signs of an economic crisis appeared. With the “show must go on” attitude, the German car-maker upgraded all the 5-Series lineup and moved on. New emission regulations were due to appear in Europe, so some parts needed to be improved while some others had to be changed.
From the outside, the headlights came with new clear glass technology, transparent glass panels covering the direction indicators, and chrome surrounds. The kidney-grille was now flash to the air-dam. A new side-sill was installed, amplifying the car’s length. Like the headlights at the front, the rear lights also came in a new, sophisticated clear-glass look and featured LED turn signals.
Inside, the 2007 5-Series was enhanced with new materials, with pleasant rubber finish on the controls for smooth and easy handling. The door panels featured a twin-tone finish: black trim bars at the top and the lower panel section. Some new additional storage options gave the 2007 5-Series an enhanced practical function. The split rear seatback was kept to increase the load area. New safety features were installed with adaptive cruise control and automatic braking.
For the engine-compartment, the 2007 5-Series Touring featured an improved range, and, apart from the M5 version, the top-of-the-line version was the 550i with 360 hp.
