The Type 46 model was launched by Bugatti in 1929.
About 400 units were produced by the French manufacturer from 1929 to 1936, including a later-developed supercharged ‘S’ variant introduced in 1930. The initial model was fitted with a 5.4L 8-cylinder inline engine delivering 140 hp, while the supercharged variant would offer output ratings of up to 160 hp. Nevertheless, the Type 46S was not a big hit within Bugatti’s customer range as it was only assembled in 18 units. The Type 46 model provided the base for a sporting coupe version introduced by Bugatti in 1930, the Type 50.
