If you want to do a faster tank, you just throw a more powerful engine in it.
This is exactly what AMG did to the icon-vehicle Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The rugged off-road-er received a new AMG version in 2008 giving more punch and grunt to the vehicle.
Even if the car cost was above EUR 100.000, it is impossible not to notice that the interior is carried over from the pre-facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The “moon-dials”, the central console, and the infotainment unit are from the same small sedan. But, at least, the navigation and leather seats are standard. Even the steering wheel is the same as of that that can be found in the 2000 C-Class.
Under the hood, there was a supercharged V8 mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and a transfer case with hi-low gears. It sends the 500 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels. The three locking differentials are fitted as standard.
But, more importantly, the suspension was tuned so the vehicle will have a smaller body-roll than the other versions of G-Class. Since it was built mainly for the road users, the suspension was stiffer, and the vehicle was better planted on the road, thanks to its 285/55 R 18 wheels.
