The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class further consolidates the automaker’s flagship position in matter of comfort, drive engineering and state-of-the-art safety technology.
Apart from a bolder design, with sharper edges and side lines, the new S-Class changed it dimensions a bit. Keeping the 3,035 mm (120.3 inches) wheelbase from the last model, the luxurious sedan got 20 mm (0.8 inches) longer, 28 mm (1.1 inches) wider and 25 mm (1 inch) lower, now measuring 5,116 mm long (201.4 inches), 1,899 mm wide (78.8 inches) and 1,496 mm tall (58.9 inches). With the car’s size being increased, it is normal that more passenger space will be available, enhancing occupants’ comfort. And while that can apply to the cabin, the luggage space has dropped a little from 558 L (19,7 cu.ft) to 530 L (18.7 cu.ft). Despite the limousine’s new proportions, its efficiency got better, the S350 Bluetec model averaging the European cycle with 5.7 l/100 km (41 mpg), which is 0.6-liters less than the previous version. The S400 Hybrid gets 6.55 l/100 km (36 mpg) and the S500 drops its fuel consumption from 9.5 l/100 km (25 mpg) to 8.85 l/100 km (26.5 mpg).
