If the S-type was mind-numbingly fast for its time, the SS was LHC-like electron fast thanks to its advanced supercharged 6-straight petrol engine that delivered 200 hp and 225 respectively throughout its production time.
Now, taking into consideration that most cars of the time, even other MB models boasted a power output not higher than 80 hp for the sports models, this very limited range of automobiles was as fast as some of the cars today. In fact, the quickest SS-model reached a top speed of 118 mph (170 Km/h), amazingly achieved through a low compression ratio(6.2:1) and supercharger combination.

The SSK was a beautifully styled and outrageously fast vehicle, having been fitted with a range of 6-straight petrol engines ranging in power output from 200 hp to 250 hp.
The latter and most powerful engine of the range pushed the car to a top speed of 119 mph (190 km/h) via a 4-speed manual transmission mated to a rear-wheel drive system. Power and stamina were matched by looks corresponding to those of a veritable road-thresher, with a variety of body-types sporting the signature right-side triple exhaust tubing, stylish front fender cuts, multiple-spoke wheels and even front fenders separate from the rest of the body.

The SSKL was MB’s flagship model at the time and coincidentally the rarest of them all, having been built in very few numbers throughout its one year production time.
Getting your hands on one would either mean that you are a high-ranking MB museum employee or that you own literally tons of cash for the only two units that still exist belong to the German manufacturer’s museum and a private collection respectively. Unearthly powerful, the car featured a lightweight construction and 7.1 L supercharged petrol unit that developed 300 hp, just enough to push the car to top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h).

Derivative of the K model, the typ S was released as a sporty elegant car with as many improvements as car-technology allowed back in 1926.
For a car of its time, the S-type was truly the S-Klasse of its days, at least in terms of performance and safety. Built on a long pressed steel chassis dubbed as the W06, the S model carried a large six-cylinder OHC petrol plant displacing 6.8 L mated to a front-mounted Roots blower that led to a power output of 180 hp. Other improvements include a double-ignition system (similar to nowadays Twin Spark), front-rear live axles linked to semi-elliptic leaf-springs and four-wheel pull-wire (hoist) brakes.
