The first generation Renault Megane was born in 1995 and was supposed to be a replacement for the old but popular Renault 19.
The Megane shared a lot of parts with its predecessor although it also received elements from other Renault models, including the grille from Renault 16. The first models of Renault Megane were built in two Renault plants, in France and Spain, and came with multiple engine choices, starting with a 1.4-liter and ending with a 2.0-liter 16V. The top engine in this class was the 2.0 16V which produced 150 horsepower and a maximum speed of 130.5 mpg with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration done in 8.7 seconds.
