Back in 1997, Toyota launched the first generation Avensis, which was available in three body versions - sedan, liftback and estate.
As the bane suggests, the liftback version was basically the Avensis sedan with a fifth door at the rear, allowing for a bigger trunk and better access drop in voluminous baggage. The Toyota Avensis liftback was, just like the other two editions, kept in production until 2003 when the Japanese manufacturer introduced the third generation of the vehicle. Available in four engine versions, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 gasoline and 2.0 diesel, the Avensis was also known as the Toyota Corona on the Argentinean market.
