The first R-badged Scirocco was released in 2009.
While the regular Scirocco was never a slow car, the new R version brought even more to the tablet.
Besides the exterior design, the handling was improved, as well as a nicer engine sound coming with the package.
With the regular Scirocco was already being an eye-catcher, the R version turned heads.
One of the fastest car of the VW Group, the Scirocco R was equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produced 261 hp.
All of the changes made for the R version were handled by the Volkswagen Individual, an arm of the company that was exclusively tasked with the VW sport versions.
The interior was designed with great attention to details and high quality materials were used throughout. Every surface was great to touch and the dashboard was covered in soft leather. The nice sport seats were covered in the “kyalami” fabric weave and had the R logo on the front head restraints.
The Scirocco R came with different driving modes such as the Comfort, the Normal and the Sport mode. While the Normal setting was adequate for daily driving, the Sport mode was great fun on the track.
Unique 18-inch alloys were standard and 19-inch wheels could be added for around $670.
