PORSCHE Macan S
Generations Timeline, Specs and Pictures
Porsche introduced a last facelift for the Macan lineup in 2021 and brought more power under the hood, a refreshed design, and an improved interior.
When Porsche introduced the Cayenne in its lineup, its fans were outraged. Soon, the big SUV became the biggest seller from its stable, and it was accompanied by the Panamera and, in 2014, by the smaller SUV Macan.
After a few updates in 2015 and 2018, the Macan received a final refresh in 2021, bringing a new front fascia. The Porsche Dynamic Light System became standard for the entire Macan range. In addition, the new LED Porsche repositioned the daytime running lights on the upper side of the side-scoops. The design team also worked on the car’s back, creating a rounded shape and installing a striking diffuser.
The Macan’s interior received a new center console with a shorter gear selector, surrounded by touch buttons instead of physical ones. Thus, the carmaker believes that it enhanced the driver’s experience and created a cleaner, sharper look for the car.
Porsche fitted a new center console inside the Macan GTS, enhanced with touch controls instead of physic buttons and a shorter gear selector. In addition, the carmaker now installed the analog clock on top of the dashboard as a standard feature. There was also a new range of colors available for the leather-wrapped interior.
Under the hood, the Macan S received a 2.9-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It sent the power in all corners and provided similar performances as the outgoing GTS model. However, unlike the 2021 GTS, the S didn’t feature the same stiffened air suspension.
The smaller sportier SUV from Porsche wants to keep its crown as the sportiest vehicle in the segment.
The Macan has important upgrades for the 2020 model, featuring new and improved front lights with LED headlights as standard and three-dimensional LED lights in the rear.
Right from the start, the refreshed Macan has been offered with two engines: a 2.0 turbocharged four cylinder and a new 3.0 V6 unit. Both powerplants are mated to a 7 speed dual-clutch transmission called PDK. The all-wheel-drive system is controlled by a system called PTM. In order to meet the harshest emission levels in Europe, Euro 6d, both engines are equipped with a gasoline particulate filter.
The main characteristic of the Macan has to be the driving dynamics and that promise is covered. The sprint from 0 to 60 MPH is covered in under 6.5 seconds for the 2.0 turbocharged unit and 5 seconds flat for the big V6 brother. For brakes, the revamped Macan can be ordered with PCCB – ceramic braking system.
On the cockpit, the driver has a big 10.9 inch display, compared to the 7.2” from the pre-facelift version. The Macan has, like the latest Panamera and Cayenne, a user interface which can be adapted to the driver’s profile to meet his personal needs and requests. The new Macan offers a good package for interconnectivity, and the owner also has the possibility to use a dedicated app to connect with the car.
The SUV-baby Macan from Porsche is the answer for those who want a premium car, an SUV and a performance car in a single vehicle, which they can park easily in cities or tighter parking lots.
The 2014 Macan combines the typical handling characteristics of a Porsche: maximum acceleration and braking values, vast engine power, extreme agility and optimum steering precision. Porsche has invested 500 million euro in the plant and has established an entire production line for the model in Leipzig.
The Macan S is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine delivering 340 hp and also features an active all-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. This AWD system is fitted on all Macan models. A seven-speed double-clutch transmission transfers power as required and almost without any interruption in tractive force, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 5.4 seconds (or 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package fitted).
The vehicle reaches a top speed of 254 kph (158 mph). The diesel version offers a 3.0-liter V6 with 258 hp but plenty of performance: 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 6.3 seconds (or 6.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package). Maximum speed for the diesel version is 230 kph (143 mph).
The interior has room for five, but mostly for four people. The infotainment system can be connected only with Apple CarPlay, but not with Android Auto.
