The first generation of Subaru Forester saw the daylight in 1997 when the Japanese company launched a new model based on the Impreza platform.
Although the Forester has been rebadged and sold in different markets of the world by other car manufacturers, the main model is actually produced by the Gunma Yajima plant in Japan. Available in four engine versions, ranging from 2.0 liter gasoline to 2.5 liter diesel which released between 165 and 210 horsepower, the first generation of the Forester was kept in production until 2002 when the parent company came out with a brand new and improved edition.
